Hama nodded, acknowledging this as the truth. "Forgive me. We are wary of strangers. We have all been affected by the war and by the Fire Nation raids. I have to ask, how are you here now? I thought the Fire Nation wiped out your kind at the start of the war one hundred years ago," she said.

Hama nodded. "Then he must begin now. I offer to teach Aang waterbending," she said. Katara's head turned as she saw something in the distance. As it came ever closer, she realized in horror what it was. "That's a Fire Nation vessel! Sokka, gather the troops!" she said. On board the ship, David knew what going to happen. Zuko was going to try and capture the avatar. "Just don't hurt him, Zuko," Mai whispered in her love's ear.

Zuko nodded as he disembarked. "Where is the Avatar?!" Zuko demanded. The warriors Kopaka trained stood at the ready.

Aang noticed some of the warriors gather closer to him, but he stepped forward in front of Zuko, extending his hands. "I am the one you seek. If I go with you, will you leave this village alone?" he asked.

Aang bowed. "Then I will return with you," he said. Allowing his arms to be bound, he could see his new friend Katara fighting back tears, and Gyatso almost begging him not to go. "It will be all right," he said. When Aang came aboard, David, who had been calmly talking with Ty Lee, turned. "So that is the avatar," he said.

"Stop!" Kopaka shouted as all eyes focused on him. "I'm the real Avatar. Aang is only trying to protect me." Kopaka said, not knowing his brother was on board Zuko's ship.

Mai knelt to the boy, trying to seem non-threatening. "If so, then bend air. The current avatar would be an airbender," she said.

Kopaka nodded. He used water bending combined with blood bending to create the illusion that he was bending air to lift Zuko up. This convinced the soliders as they released Aang and captured Kopaka. The fire nation left with Kopaka, not realizing they were dupped.
