Kopaka's training methods got much better results as he was training them by disguising it as a game. Soon they were actually acting like troops. They were cleaning camp, running drills and building traps and fortifications. Sokka was over joyed, untill Kopaka asked the non bender women also train.

David and Ty Lee began their travels together, and Katara continued learning under Hama. Time went by. David and Ty Lee had entered a full romantic relationship, and David trained in firebending alongside Zuko under Iroh. As he watched their progress one day, Iroh was proud of them. "Good, you two. Keep it up," the old general said.

Kopaka was watching his grandma train Katara. Katara had come far in three years. She was soon a waterbending master. Kopaka, now wearing a water tribe Parka, was getting ready to join Sokka and Katara on fishing trip.
Tylee and Mai, who joined Zuko in his exile, watched their boyfriends train.

Hama gave a case of food to them. "Stay safe. Kopaka, Katara, remember your waterbending. Sokka, be brave, as a true warrior should," she said. On the ship, Iroh allowed Zuko and David a short break. David joined Ty Lee, kissing her head gently. "It's been a very interesting three years. Surely, Zuko will find the avatar soon," he said.

Hama smiled as they set off. She watched them until they vanished, and then turned back to the village. Meanwhile, Iroh continued giving one of his words of wisdom to his charges, even though he knew that it annoyed Zuko for him to do so.

Katara took a step back. The boy and the old man wore unusual robes, and both had arrow tattoos upon their shaved heads. "They don't look like anyone I have ever seen," she said.

Suddenly, they started to stir. "They do look like airbenders, but Gran-Gran said the same thing," she said. It was then that the boy woke up. "Where are we?" he asked groggily.

The boy, Aang, turned quickly. "Monk Gyatso, are you all right?" he asked. On the ship, all who were present saw the light shoot into the sky. Mai approached Zuko. "Don't get too excited," she warned him. Iroh gave a nod of agreement.

"It's the Avatar Mai, it has to be."Zuko said. "Change course, head towards that light!" Zuko ordered.
"Yes Aang, I'm fine." Gyatso replied.
