Aang wanted to laugh, but didn't. "Everyone, thank you, for your help," he said. Days continued to pass. Finally, Ozai arrived at the North pole. Guided by his dark new ally, Ozai found the first spirit portal and opened it. He traveled again and opened the southern one. He laughed. "I am ready," he said aloud, and then entered the spirit world through that portal. Soon, he stood before the great tree where Avatar Wan had trapped Vaatu so long ago.

However so was team Avatar. Avatar Wan's spirit had warned them of Vaatu's pact with Ozai.

Ozai turned. "You're all too late! Soon I will have the power of the avatar for myself, and I will be ruler of all the world!" he said.

Ozai went to do this. "You will be free!" he said as he began to do what Wan had wanted to prevent.

Team avatar, held back by Ozai's firebender guards watched helplessly as Vaatu was freed. Vaatu then took Aang into his tentacles and ripped Raava out of him. Vaatu started to strike Raava, each blow severing the spirit of a avatar.
This continued until Kopaka broke through and used his spirit healing technique on Vaatu. It was then that Vaatu stopped. However all the avatar spirits were severed, and Only Raava remained. Kopaka, not knowing what else to do, merged with Vaatu to keep Ozai from doing it. He threw Raava into his brother. With the completion of Harmonic convergence, Vaatu and Raava were forever bound to their two hosts.

Ozai frowned and then let out a fierce scream of anger and began firebending at the group.

Team avatar retreated back through the portal they used, ending up in the south pole while Ozai ended up in the north pole.

Jun Huo was still shocked. "Raava and Vaatu entered us. Does that mean that for the first time, there are two avatars?" he said.

Hama sighed. "Everyone is all right, but you and your brother bonded with those two spirits, and Aang is no longer the avatar," she said.

Meanwhile Gyatso was speaking with Aang. " Aang, are you alright?" Gyatso asked his surrogate son.
