Yeah, don't exactly know why I decided to cross Avatar: The Last Airbender and Legend Of Korra with the wild west, XD. Anywho, I love cowboys, native Americans and anything to do with the wild west. Add ATLA and TLOK to the mix and you have this story. Appa is an albino real-world bison, and Sokka and Katara are the children of a prominent native American chief and have a pet wolf. Enjoy! Lastly, yes, I am still not doing fanfics. I am just reposting old ones from elsewhere. I like having memories of my past. Lastly, yes, this was inspired by Moo Mesa.

With The Sound of a Thousand Cattle Drives

Prologue

The area known as Howling Mesa, named for the many wolves and coyotes who lived in its mountains, was a wild west legend.

However, this legend was real. The town of the area, Ranch-Town, so called because of the area's many farms and ranches, was a bustling wild west town. However, things were not good at the moment. A notorious gang of criminals, led by the cruel Ozai, the brother of legendary law man Iroh, the town sheriff, had been rustling cattle and sheep, robbing banks and even murdering. The citizens cried out for help, praying that a hero would come to save them. The call was answered. On a ranch owned by his grandfather Gyatso, a young boy named Aang, rose to prominence. Riding a tamed albino bison named Appa, he so desired to be like Iroh and make a difference.

He was not alone in this desire. His two good friends, the brothers Mako and Bolin, were at his side, as were the teenage son and daughter of the chief of the local Adoba native American tribe, Sokka, known to his tribe as Howling Wolf, and his pretty sister, Katara, called Mighty She-Wolf by her tribe. Traveling with the siblings was their silver-furred pet she-wolf, Tejua, whom Katara had found lost and alone when she was a tiny pup. The family adopted her and she had been their pet ever since. She was mostly tame, but ferocious and dangerous when she or her loved were threatened. Completing the group were Sokka and Katara's friend and fellow Adoba, a teenager named Korra, and Zuko, Ozai's son who had chosen the path of good.

As a group, they vowed to fight the gang and their wickedness.

Ch 1

Tejua growled as she tugged on a bison leg bone held by Katara. The Adoba teenager, sitting on a large, flat boulder, was playing with the she-wolf at the moment, having finished all of the chores expected of her in the encampment: helping to sew together bear, bison, deer and Bighorn sheep skins to make clothes, digging up edible roots and tubers and so on. Meanwhile, life in the camp went on as normal. The young men, including Katara's brother Sokka, practiced their warrior skills as the old men observed and instructed them. The young women busied themselves with tasks under the guidance of older, wiser women. Katara let go of the bone, allowing Tejua to have it.

"Good girl," she whispered, petting Tejua's head as she gnawed at the bone.

Katara was the daughter of the chief, Hakoda, also known by his tribal name of Great Bear. For all her skills, for, among the Adoba, women were expected to know how to fight as well, she was known as Mighty She-Wolf. It was a well-deserved name. In Adoba society, a tribal name was bestowed upon each person based on abilities and personal traits. Hakoda had been given his name for his warrior skills, while his wife, Kya, was known by the name Glorious Puma, both for her cat-like agility and for being a protective mother, just as mother pumas were known to be. Sokka was called Howling Wolf, for his ability to near-perfectly imitate a wolf howl. Tejua looked up at Katara. As if she knew what the wolf was thinking, she smiled.

"I like being with you too, Tejua," she said.

Katara then saw something in the distance. She rose, as did Tejua, who had it in her head to defend her owner if this was a threat. However, as the shape got closer, Katara could tell that it was Aang, riding atop Appa. Aang had helped the tribe out on several occasions and was well-liked by them, leading to them making him an honorary member and giving him the name Chuckling Chipmunk for his fun-loving nature. In the camp, Aang stopped and dismounted Appa.

"Hello, Katara," he began.

Katara ran up and greeted him with a friendly hug.

"What brings you here, Aang?" she asked.

Aang looked down at Tejua and then back at Katara as Sokka showed up and greeted him.

"It looks like Ozai and his gang have struck another ranch and gotten away. I need some people with tracking skills only an Adoba would have to find them and finally help Sheriff Iroh bring them to justice," he said.

The Adoba were legendary for their tracking skills. It was something that parents would pass to their children, and Katara and Sokka were no exception.

"Talk to our parents first, and we will see," Katara stated.

Aang did so, telling Hakoda and Kya what was happening and why it was so urgent. They gave their permission. Before they left, Kya placed her hands under Tejua's chin and looked into her eyes.

"Tejua, make sure they stay as safe as possible," she ordered.

And with that, they headed off, Tejua in tow. Also joining them was another Adoba teen, Korra, known as Mountain Flower. Katara, Sokka and Korra, used to walking fairly long distances to go hunting, walked alongside their friend as he rode on Appa.

"So, what first?" Sokka asked.

Aang turned into him.

"First, we get Mako, Bolin and Zuko, then we talk to Iroh, then we hit the trail," he said.

The mission to find Ozai had begun.
