This is an anthro adaptation of the Dinotopia series, starring Charlie and Sasha. This has gone through a lot to get here. I had to review a lot of the material to get it right. The word anthro is used in the same way human is to describe the race of anthropomorphic animals. Lastly, this is an alternate version of earth inhabited by anthros. It's currently the 1800's. Enjoy! Future chapters will be longer.

Love amongst the Dinosaurs
Chapter 1
Dinotopia was a land apart from time. Hidden and protected by storms and an impassable coral reef, it was a place that no anthro anywhere knew of, save those that lived there. Descended from shipwreck victims, they had developed a unique culture, surrounded by members of the species of mighty creatures called dinosaurs. Yes, dinosaurs inhabited this island as well as anthros, and together, they had forged a culture and civilization. A few of the dinosaurs were even able to speak the anthro language. Along what the natives, anthro and dinosaur alike, knew as the Polongo River, a great city, Waterfall City, had been built atop the waterfall. At the top, overlooking the falls, a figure stood.
“Like the roar of the falls, my voice sings of my love for my beloved,” the figure’s feminine voice said.
The figure was a beautiful Irish setter by the name of Sasha La Fleur. The daughter of wealthy locals, she was in a deep romance with the son of the city’s mayor, Charles “Charlie” Barkin. Both of them were now twenty-three years old. Suddenly, someone grabbed her shoulder. She turned to see Charlie.
“I told you I’d be here,” he said, hugging her and kissing her head.
It was the late afternoon, just before dinner. The roar of the falls rang out over the area. The sounds of anthros talking and the calls of dinosaurs were all around them. Sasha smiled at Charlie.
“I couldn’t wait to see your handsome face,” she said.
The two shared a brief kiss and then walked off together.
“So, you ready for Annabelle’s poetry lesson tomorrow?” Sasha asked.
Charlie sighed. Annabelle, a beautiful whippet, was the city’s librarian and also their tutor. Sometimes, her lessons were all right, but Charlie wasn’t looking forward to learning a poetry lesson. As a pup, he had mastered a small amount of it, but this was the advanced stuff.
“Eh…I don’t know,” he said.
Sasha gave him a playful look.
“It won’t be that bad,” she said.
After walking for a while, the two separated to go home for dinner. Charlie arrived at home to find his family: his father, Mayor Burt Barkin, his mother, Loni Barkin and his older sister, Florence “Flo” Barkin. In Dinotopian culture, it was normal for an anthro to be paired with a dinosaur when both were young. Charlie’s own dinosaur partner was a female protoceratops named Bix. His father’s dinosaur partner was a male gallimimus named Zephyr, while those of his mother and sister were members of the duckbilled hadrosaur family: a female corythosaurus named Nama, who was partners with his mother, and Josiah, a male parasaurolophus. Loni smiled at her son as everyone sat down at the table.
“Hello, Charlie,” she said.
Charlie returned the greeting and joined them. Nearby, the dinosaurs were enjoying a rest. Because of the life partner tradition and its importance in Dinotopian society, homes were designed to accommodate dinosaurs as well as anthros. This was especially true of the homes of the wealthy. Soon, the food, consisting of fish, which was the primary protein source on the island, soup, bread and other foods was brought by servants. They also brought baskets of vegetables and other plant material for the dinosaurs. As the family ate, they had no clue what awaited them in the nearby future.
