Chapter 1
*The screen shows a vast landscape. The sky is reddish, as the sun is in the process of going down. Then, a figure riding a large, reptilian beast of burden can be seen in the distance. The figure begins to sing*
Figure:
Oh I come from a land, from a far away place
Where the caravan beasts roam
Where it's flat and immense
And the heat is intense
It's barbaric, but hey, it's home
When the winds from the east
And the sun from the west
And the sand in the glass is right
Come on down
Stop on by
Hop a carpet and fly
To another Imperial night
*The figure rides into a huge city dominated by a huge palace. He continues to sing*
Imperial nights
Like Imperial days
More often than not
Are wilder than wild
In a lot of good ways
Imperial nights
'Neath Imperial moons
A fool off his guard
Could fall and fall hard
Out there on the dunes
*The figure's mount comes to a stop in a darkened section of the city and the figure hops off, revealing himself as Mr. Ping*
"Ah, hé ping and good evening to you, worthy friend. Please, come closer. There. Welcome to Valleybah, city of mystery, of enchantment and of the finest noodle soup this side of the Great River, come on down!" he exclaimed.
*He unwraps his travel bag, revealing a portable noodle stall. He holds up a hot, steaming bowl of soup*
"Yes, nothing tastier in all the land! Come and get it now!" he said.
*He realizes no one is coming to take it and puts the bowl down*
"I can see that you are interested in something extraordinary," he said.
*He pulls out a golden oil lamp*
"Then consider this. Do not be fooled by its commonplace appearance. This is no ordinary lamp. It once changed the course of a young man's life. A young man who like this lamp was more than what he seemed. A diamond in the rough. Perhaps you would like to hear the tale? It begins on a dark night, where a dark man waits, with a dark purpose," he said.
*Mr. Ping pours dust from the lamp into his hand, and then tosses it into the dark sky, where it forms a starry night sky. The scene switches to a landscape shot, where a tall, muscular Snow leopard in red and black robes and a tall hat with a blood-red feather and carrying a golden, ruby-eyed, cobra-headed cane and a white peacock in silver robes wait. These are Tai Lung and Shen respectively. Tai Lung is the grand vizier to Sultan Po and Queen Tigress of Valleybah, while Shen is his aide. They stand there as a wolf comes up to them*
"You are late," Tai Lung said grimly.
Boss Wolf looked at him.
"A 1,000 apologies, oh patient one," he replied.
"You have it then?" the Snow leopard asked.
Boss Wolf pulled out half on an insect medallion. Tai Lung reached for it, but the wolf pulled it back.
"Not yet. The treasure," he said, holding the medallion away from Tai Lung.
Suddenly, Shen swept in and snatched it from Boss Wolf's hand. He handed it to Tai Lung as the Snow leopard retrieved the other half of the medallion from inside his robe. He looked at Boss Wolf.
"Trust me, my pungent friend. You will get what's coming to you," he said.
"What's coming to you, awk!" Shen repeated.
Tai Lung put the two halves of the medallion together. It came to life and flew off with a bright glow around it. The Snow leopard, wolf and peacock took off after it.
"Faster!" Tai Lung shouted.
They continued their run, finally stopping at a dune. The medallion split in two and plunged straight into the dune, leaving only two glowing light points. Suddenly, and without warning, the dust of the dune began to rise up, forming into a giant tiger's head, with the glowing light points as the eyes. Tai Lung smiled wickedly.
"After all my years of searching, the Cave of Wonders!" he exclaimed in delight.
Boss Wolf looked on in shock.
"By the great rulers of the past…" he said.
Tai Lung grabbed him by his collar and glared at him.
"Remember this: the rest of the treasure is yours, but the lamp is mine!" he said.
Boss Wolf went up to the cave, the mouth of the tiger head serving as the entrance.
"Who disturbs my slumber?" the Cave demanded.
"It is I, Boss Wolf, a humble thief," Boss Wolf replied.
"Know this. Only one can enter here. One whose worth lies within. A diamond in the rough," the Cave answered.
Boss Wolf looked at Tai Lung questioningly. Tai Lung frowned.
"Go on!" he said with a menacing growl.
Boss Wolf did so, but the moment he set foot on the cave, it roared and collapsed, killing Boss Wolf instantly and burying Shen in dust.
"Seek thee out, the diamond in the rough," the cave said as it vanished.
The halves of the medallion landed at Tai Lung's feet as Shen dug himself out of the ground. The peacock was angry.
"I can't believe it! We're never going to find that stupid lamp! Just forget it! We've got a big problem here," he said.
Tai Lung nodded.
"Boss Wolf was obviously less than worthy," he said.
Shen glared at him.
"Oh there's a big surprise! I think that I'm going to have a heart attack from that surprise! Look at this, I'm so ticked off that I'm molting! Again, we have a big problem here," he said.
Tai Lung pinched his beak shut.
"Yes, we do. Only one can enter. I must find this one, this…diamond in the rough," he said.

Chapter 2
It was the next day. The handsome young male Snow leopard named Cheng-Ti raced across the rooftops of Valleybah carrying a stolen loaf of bread. He was being pursued by Captain Vachir, the rhino leader of the city's guards. He was clad in a purple vest and billowy white pants. Atop his head was a small, round, red fez. He looked back and saw that Vachir and his fellow rhino guards were now very close.
"I'll have your hands for a trophy, street rat!" Vachir said angrily.
Cheng looked at the bread.
"All this for a loaf of bread?" he asked.
He then jumped, landing on two clotheslines. He slid along them, collecting bits of clothing along the way. Finally, he slammed into some closed window shutters and came crashing to the ground, awnings breaking his fall. He heard Vachir's voice.
"You won't get away so easily!" the rhino bellowed.
Cheng looked up as several lionesses laughed at the scene. He went up to them, putting a bed sheet that had fallen with him around himself as a disguise.
"Good morning, ladies," he said.
"Getting into trouble a little early today, aren't we, Cheng-Ti?" one lioness said.
Cheng laughed.
"Trouble? No. You're only in trouble if you get caught," he said.
"Got you!" Vachir shouted as he grabbed Cheng.
"I'm in trouble!" the young Snow leopard said.
"And this time…" Vachir began.
However, he was cut off in mid-sentence as Abu, Cheng's kleptomaniac pet monkey and best friend, jumped down on the rhino's head, forcing the cloth head covering that he wore over his eyes. Cheng smiled.
"Nice timing, Abu, as usual," he said.
Abu chattered excitedly as he jumped onto Cheng's shoulder. Cheng ran off.
"Come on, let's get out of here!" he said, fleeing as the guards attacked again.
*As he runs, Cheng starts to sing*
Cheng:
Gotta keep
One jump ahead of the breadline
One swing ahead of the sword
I steal only what I can't afford
That's everything
*Cheng humiliates one of the rhinos by causing him to rip his pants wide open*
One jump ahead of the lawmen
That's all, and that's no joke
These guys don't appreciate that I'm broke
*Cheng and Abu climb up a stack of barrels, kicking one down onto the rhinos*
Vachir: Riff-raff!
Rhino guard 2: Street rat!
Rhino guard 3: Scoundrel!
Rhino guard 4: Take that!
*Cheng and Abu climb to the top of a platform*
Cheng: Just a little snack, guys!
*Vachir and the guards shake the platform in an attempt to knock him off*
Vachir and guards:
Rip him open
Take it back, guys!
*Cheng leaps off at the last moment*
Cheng:
I can take a hint
Gotta face the facts
You're my only friend, Abu
*As Cheng sings, he and Abu swing acrobatically into a second story home, where the beautiful wolf girls Aleu, Kate and Lilly stand*
Aleu, Kate and Lilly:
Who?!
Oh it's sad
Cheng-Ti's hit the bottom
He's become a one man rise in crime
*As Cheng looks at them, their mother, Aniu the white wolf, swings at him with a broom*
Aniu:
I'd blame parents
Except that he hasn't got them!
*Cheng and Abu exit and the chase continues*
Cheng:
One jump ahead of the slowpokes
One skip ahead of my doom
Next time, I'm gonna use a nom de plume
One jump ahead of the hitmen
One hit ahead of the flock
I think I'll take a stroll around the block
*The chase continues on. The crowd hurls insults at Cheng. The guards finally corner him at a door*
Cheng: Let's not be too hasty
*The door opens and Zira comes out. She hugs Cheng*
Zira: Still, I think he's rather tasty!
*Cheng escapes her grasp*
Cheng:
Gotta eat to live
Gotta steal to eat
Otherwise, we'd get along
Vachir and Rhino guards: Wrong!
*As Cheng dashes away, Abu grabs the sword of a sword-swallower and pulls it out of his mouth. He waves it menacingly at the rhinos*
Rhino guard 1: He's got a sword!
Vachir: You idiots! We've all got swords!
*The rhinos all pull their weapons, causing Abu to drop his sword and flee. He rejoins Cheng*
Cheng:
One jump ahead of the hoofbeats
One hop ahead of the hump
One trick ahead of disaster
They're quick, but I'm much faster
*The rhinos chase Cheng and Abu up a stairway and into a room. Cheng grabs a carpet and jumps out the window*
Here goes, better throw my paw in
Wish me happy landing
All I've gotta do is jump
*Cheng and Abu use the carpet as a parachute to make it to safety in an alley. The guards follow him out the window, but fall and crash-land in a smelly pile of stuff labeled with a sign reading 'Jun and Kun's Discount fertilizer'*
Cheng was overjoyed. He broke the bread in half and handed one part to Abu. It was then that Cheng noticed two small jackal pups pawing through the garbage for food. Seeing his bread, and feeling sorry for them, he went over and gave them his bread, and, after a moment, convinced Abu to do the same. The pups were overjoyed. Suddenly, Cheng heard parade music. He exited the alley and saw a conceited-looking lion in magenta robes riding a four-legged reptilian beast. This was Prince John, the newest suitor brought in by Sultan Po to meet his daughter, Princess Mei-Lin. The two goats Jun and Kun were watching from the crowd.
"On his way to the palace, I suppose," Jun said.
"Another suitor for Princess Mei," Kun answered.
"You know, his clothes aren't half-bad," Jun said.
"No, they're all bad!" Kun replied.
The goats laughed mockingly. Suddenly, the two pups ran out in front of the prince's mount, spooking it. Prince John raised a whip to strike the pups.
"Out of my way, you filthy brats!" he shouted.
Before the whip could touch the pups, Cheng jumped in front of them and caught the whip.
"Hey, if I were as rich as you, I could afford to buy myself some manners!" he said.
Prince John sneered.
"I'll teach you some manners!" he shouted.
He then proceeded to kick Cheng into a mud puddle and continued on his way into the palace gates. Cheng smiled.
"Look, Abu. It's not every day that you see a beast with two rear ends!" he said in a mocking tone.
Prince John turned.
"You are a worthless street rat. You were born a street rat, you'll die a street rat, and only your fleas will mourn you!" he said before the palace gates closed and everyone left. Cheng growled at the gate.
"I'm not worthless, and I don't have fleas!" he retorted.
Realizing that it was pointless, he started to head to his little hovel with Abu.
*Cheng tucks Abu in for the night and begins to sing*
Cheng:
Riff-raff, street rat
I don't buy that
If only they'd look closer
Would they see a poor boy?
No siree
They'd find out
there's so much more
to me
*He opens the window and looks out at the palace*
"Someday, Abu, things are going to change. We'll be rich, live in a palace, and never have any problems at all," he said.

Chapter 3
Sultan Po, Queen Tigress, their other daughter, a gorgeous panda named Huan Ning and her husband, the handsome young male fox Prince Wei Wen, waited outside the door to the palace garden where Mei was meeting Prince John. Po was clad in fine robes of a whitish fabric, a white gold-with-green-bands belt and an elaborate, blue-feathered head wrap. Tigress, the daughter of Valleybah's greatest family of nobles who was betrothed to Po at an early age and married him when they were in their early twenties, wore elegant robes of red and gold, along with a gold necklace. Huan wore a lavender bedlah outfit which consisted of two pieces, a top which showed her beautiful, tight, flat stomach and poofy lavender bedlah pants. She also wore a gold necklace. Wei wore fine clothing of royal blue and silver fabric, along with a nice head wrap with a black feather. Waiting with them were the members of their royal court, Tigress' handmaidens, Song the Clouded leopard and Viper the Green tree viper, Palace weapons master Monkey, Court messenger Crane and Royal archives keeper Mantis. Suddenly, Prince John burst through the door in a rage.
"I've never been so insulted!" he shouted.
Po ran up to him.
"Prince John, you're not leaving so soon, are you?" he asked, his voice indicating shock.
"Good luck marrying her off!" Prince John shouted as he stomped off towards the exit of the palace.
As Prince John walked away, everyone could see that there was a massive gaping hole in his pants which revealed his polka-dot underpants underneath. The ragged design of the tear indicated that they had been torn by feline claws. Po and Tigress knew instantly what had happened.
"Mei has rejected another suitor," Tigress said with a frown.
Po nodded.
"Let's go talk to her," he said.
And so, Po and Tigress entered the garden. Mei-Lin, a gorgeous white tigress with sapphire blue eyes and the same beautiful, tight, flat stomach as Huan, stood there, magenta cloth still dangling from her claws. She was clad in the same outfit and gold necklace as Huan, only her clothes were blue. Po and Tigress frowned at the cloth on Mei's claws.
"So this is why Prince John stormed out!" Po said angrily as he pulled the cloth off.
Mei's eyes narrowed.
"I was just showing that conceited, overdressed jerk that the world does not revolve around him!" she stated.
Tigress walked up to her.
"Mei, honey, you've got to stop rejecting every suitor that comes to call. The law says that you must marry a prince by your next birthday," she said.
"The law is wrong," Mei replied.
Po went up to her, his eyes wide in desperation.
"You've only got three more days!" he said.
Mei frowned.
"Mom, Dad, I hate being forced into this. If I do marry, I want it to be for love," she said.
Tigress sighed.
"Mei, it's not only the law. Your father and I won't be around forever and we want to be sure that you're provided for," she said.
Mei scoffed.
"Please, Mom and Dad, try to understand. I've never done anything for myself. Except for Huan, I've never had any real friends. I've never even been outside the palace walls," she said.
Po looked at her.
"But Mei, you're a princess!" he said.
This got Mei even more furious.
"Then maybe I don't want to be a princess anymore!" she shouted.
Po did not like this.
"Oh…the great rulers of the past forbid that you should have any daughters!" he said in sheer frustration.
He then stomped away. Tigress looked at her daughter.
"Come, Mei," she said as she began to follow Po.
Mei obeyed and they entered the palace. Huan looked at her sister.
"So what happened?" the female panda asked.
Mei looked at her.
"Mom and Dad gave me the whole 'you're a princess' talk again," she said.
"Well, if you would just choose a suitor…" Huan began.
"If only I could get lucky and find a non-conceited prince like you," Mei said, cutting her sister off.
Before Huan could respond, Po spoke.
"I need to think. I'll be in my study," he said.
He then looked at Tigress.
"I'll be back in a bit. Can you take care of things in the throne room?" he said.
Tigress smiled and hugged her husband.
"Of course, my love," she said.
Po smiled back. He and Tigress then shared a kiss. Afterward, Po headed for the study and Tigress and the others headed for the throne room. Once in the study, Po began thinking, manipulating figurines on a large replica of the city as he did so. Suddenly, a large shadow fell on him causing the panda sultan to panic until he realized who it was. It was Tai Lung, along with Shen. Po smiled.
"Ah, Tai Lung, my most trusted advisor. I am in desperate need of your wisdom," he said.
Tai Lung nodded.
"My life is but to serve you, my lord. What is the problem?" he asked.
Po looked down in despair.
"It's this suitor business. Mei refuses to choose a husband. I'm at my wit's end," he said.
Shen stood next to Po.
"Awk! Wit's end!" he said.
Po laughed and pulled out a dumpling.
"Here, have a dumpling!" he said.
He then proceeded to stuff the dumpling into Shen's mouth, causing the peacock to grimace as he tried to swallow it. Po and Tai Lung laughed. Tai Lung then got serious again.
"Now, perhaps I can find a solution to this problem," he said.
Po nodded.
"If anyone could help, it's you," he said.
Tai Lung looked at the panda's left ring finger.
"Of course, it would require the use of the royal blue diamond," he said.
Po looked nervous.
"My ring? But it was a gift from my mother when I became sultan. It's been in the family for years," he said in protest.
Tai Lung looked at him.
"It is necessary to find Princess Mei a suitor," he said.
Tai Lung then aimed his cobra-headed staff at Po. The ruby eyes of the staff began to glow and swirl and the room darkened. Po's eyes got a hypnotized look.
"Everything will be fine," Tai Lung told him.
"Everything will be fine," Po repeated in a hypnotized voice.
"Now, hand over the diamond," Tai Lung stated.
"Here, Tai Lung," Po said as he took off his ring and gave it to the Snow leopard.
Tai Lung snatched it from the panda's hand.
"You are most gracious, your majesty. Now, run along and play with your toys," he said as he turned to leave, motioning to Shen as he did so.
"Yes, that sounds great," Po said, his voice still hypnotized.
Tai Lung and Shen were out of the room. Shen sneered and spat out the dumpling.
" I can't take it anymore. If I have to choke down another of those stale, disgusting dumplings, I'll…" he began, but stopped in mid-sentence.
Shen then launched into a long rant as he and Tai Lung approached Tai Lung's hidden chambers.
"Calm yourself, Shen. Soon, I will be sultan, not that twit," Tai Lung said.
Shen smiled.
"And then I'll shove the dumplings down his throat!" he said with glee.
They both laughed as they entered Tai Lung's secret lair to use a supernatural machine that would help locate the diamond in the rough. Meanwhile, outside, it was finally night. In the garden, a cloaked figure passed through. It was Mei. After today's incident, she had decided to run away and escape this place. She came to a tree next to the wall, a tree that was tall enough to help her over the wall. She started to climb. As she got into the tree, however, she felt a paw grab her ankle. She looked down to see Huan, her big, beautiful, brown eyes looking up at her sister pleadingly and wistfully.
"Please, Mei, don't go. Running away won't solve the problem," she said.
However, Mei had made up her mind.
"Huan, I love all of my family, but I can't stay here and have my life lived for me. I'll miss you, Mom and Dad. Good bye," she said.
Mei then pulled her ankle free and climbed up the tree and over the wall. She then headed into the city. Tears welled up in Huan's eyes, but she didn't cry yet. Rather, she went into the palace, where Po and Tigress were making their way to their bed chamber, along with the others. Tigress noticed that Huan was about to cry.
"What's wrong, dear?" she asked.
Huan wasted no time in telling them.
"Mei ran away. I tried to stop her, but she wouldn't listen," she said.
Wei went to his wife and hugged her as the first tears flowed from her eyes. Tigress and Po were shocked. Po looked at his wife.
"Tomorrow, we will search for her," he said.
Tigress hugged him tightly. They then headed for their bed chamber. Little did they know the trouble that Mei would find in the city the next day. That night, they were both sleepless.

Chapter 4
By the next morning, Po and Tigress had spread the news of Mei's disappearance to the royal court. Viper, Song, Crane Monkey, Crane and Mantis were all talking about it.
"She's never been outside the palace walls. How can she expect to remain safe?" Song said.
Viper nodded.
"There are so many ways she could get hurt out there," she said.
Monkey gave a small smile.
"Yes, but remember, Princess Mei is no weakling. She's more than capable of defending herself," he said.
Song shook her head.
"How can claws protect against swords and daggers?" she asked.
Suddenly, a new figure entered. It was Mei Ling, a beautiful Mountain cat and the wife of Crane. During Mei and Huan's cubhood, she had been their governess. She had heard the entire conversation. She joined in.
"By now, I'm certain that the sultan and the queen have sent out the guards to recover her," she said.
Everyone nodded. Meanwhile, in the marketplace, Cheng and Abu were atop a melon seller's stand. With a well-timed distraction from Abu, Cheng stole a melon from the stand. It was then that they sat back to enjoy their breakfast. On the streets, Mei, still covered in her hood, walked through the marketplace. Along the way, merchants attempted to sell her stuff, but she rejected each of them. Suddenly, Cheng took notice of her from his perch. She was the most beautiful girl he had ever seen.
"Wow…" he said, obviously smitten with her.
Abu tried to get Cheng's attention, but to no avail. Mei continued her walk through the market. Suddenly, she saw a little gazelle calf trying to reach an apple on the counter of a fruit vendor's stall. She went over.
"Oh you must be hungry. Here you go," she said, giving him the apple.
The calf left. However, all was not well, for the owner of the cart had seen it. He was Shere Khan, a tall, muscular male tiger. He glared at the princess.
"You better be able to pay for that," he said with a growl.
"Pay?" Mei asked.
"No one steals from my cart!" Shere Khan roared.
Mei was scared.
"I'm sorry, sir. I don't have any money," she said.
Shere Khan sneered.
"Thief!" he shouted.
Mei took a step back.
"Please, if you let me go to the palace, I can get some money from the sultan," she said, her voice full of fear.
Shere Khan grabbed her wrist in a vise-like grip from which she could not escape.
"Please, stop!" she shouted.
Shere Khan slammed Mei's paw down hard on the counter of his stall and drew his sword, intending to chop it off.
"No, please!" Mei shouted.
Having seen the whole thing, Cheng rushed into action. He reached out and grabbed Shere Khan's paw just as he was about to bring the sword down.
"Thank you, kind sir," he said.
He then looked at Mei.
"I've been looking everywhere for you!" he told her.
Mei looked at him oddly.
"What are you doing?" she whispered.
"Just play along," Cheng whispered back.
Shere Khan sneered at the young street rat.
"You know this girl?" he demanded.
Cheng nodded, continuing his act.
"Sadly, yes. She is my sister. She's a little crazy," he said.
In a rage, Shere Khan grabbed Cheng by the vest.
"She said that she knew the sultan!" he shouted.
Cheng smiled.
"She thinks that the monkey is the sultan," he said, looking at Abu.
Mei then proceeded to bow to Abu.
"Oh wise sultan, how may I serve thee?" she asked.
Abu began to imitate a sultan. However, when he bowed, all of his stolen loot fell out of his vest. Shere Khan and everyone noticed and Cheng, Mei and Abu were forced to flee. Back at the palace, in Tai Lung's chamber, Shen was running on a treadmill that was powering the machine to create a supernatural storm. He looked at Tai Lung.
"With all due respect, your rottenness, couldn't we just wait for a real storm?" he asked.
Tai Lung glared at him.
"Save your breath, Shen. Faster!" he said as he put Po's ring into the machine.
"Yes, oh mighty evil one!" Shen shouted as he began to run faster.
A bolt of lightning passed through the ring and went into an hourglass below. Tai Lung looked at it.
"Sands of time, reveal to me the one who can enter the cave," he said.
The sand swirled. Finally, it showed an image of Cheng and Mei. Tai Lung gave a wicked smile.
"Yes, yes. There he is. My diamond in the rough," he said.
Shen was shocked.
"That's him?! That's who we've been looking for?!" he shouted as he lost his footing and was tossed around the room.
Tai Lung looked around.
"Let's have the guards extend him an invitation, shall we?" he said.
Finally, Shen crashed into the wall.
"Excellent, sir," he said in a pained voice.
Back in the city, Cheng had brought Mei to his hovel. The two got to talking about their lives and why Mei had run away. Before long, they found that they thought much the same way regarding life. It was obvious that they were attracted to one another. Their faces got closer and closer. However, just as Cheng was about to kiss the princess, Vachir and the guards barged in.
"Here you are!" Vachir shouted.
Cheng and Mei panicked and fled.
"My parents must have sent them!" Mei said.
Cheng took her to a window.
"Do you trust me?" he asked.
"What?" Mei replied.
"Do you trust me?" he repeated, extending his paw.
"Yes," she answered, taking her paw.
"Then jump!" Cheng shouted.
The two felines, along with Abu, jumped out the window, landing in a pile of bagged salt. They attempted to flee more, but the rhinos cut them off once again.
"We just keep running into each other, don't we, street rat?" Vachir said to Cheng.
Abu tried to blind Vachir again, but was thrown into a vase. Vachir returned his attention to Cheng as the other guards held him and chained him.
"It's the dungeon for you, boy!" he said.
Mei did not like this one bit.
"Release him!" she demanded.
Vachir only looked at her.
"Look what we have here, men, an alley cat!" he said, throwing Mei down as hard as he could.
Mei stood up and pulled off her hood.
"Unhand him, by order of the princess!" she stated.
Suddenly, Vachir realized his error and bowed. The other rhinos did the same, forcing Cheng to bow as well. All were shocked that the princess was in their midst, especially Cheng.
"Princess Mei. What are you doing outside the palace walls? And with this street rat?" Vachir said.
Mei frowned.
"That is none of your concern! Do as I say and release him!" she ordered.
Vachir looked at her.
"I would, your highness, but my orders come from Tai Lung. You'll have to take it up with him," he said.
Mei frowned.
"Believe me, I will," she stated.
The guards dragged Cheng away. Mei allowed Vachir to lead her back to the palace. In the entrance, Po and Tigress were following Crane, who was about head into the city and inform the people to tell them that if they spotted Mei, they were to inform the guards. The sultan and queen were giving him his instructions. Just as they reached the door, it opened, revealing Mei and Vachir. Po and Tigress ran forward and hugged her. Behind them, Huan was overjoyed that her sister was finally home. Po looked at his daughter.
"Mei, what were you thinking?!" he exclaimed.
Tigress nodded.
"Yes. You could have been hurt or worse," she said, her face stern.
Mei shook her head.
"I don't have time for this. I have to see Tai Lung," she said, heading off into the palace.
Tigress looked at Po.
"I'll follow her," she said, going and catching up with her daughter.
Mei and Tigress went into a large chamber, where, by chance, Tai Lung was emerging from his chamber.
"Tai Lung, Mei wishes to speak with you," Tigress said.
Tai Lung shut the door, causing Shen to get stuck as he was coming through. He looked at Mei.
"How can I be of service, your majesty?" he asked.
"The guards just took a boy from the market on your orders," Mei said.
Tai Lung looked at her.
"Your parents have charged me with keeping peace in Valleybah. The boy was a criminal," he said.
"What was his crime?" Tigress asked.
"Kidnapping the princess, of course," Tai Lung answered.
Mei frowned.
"He didn't kidnap me, I ran away!" Mei explained.
Tai Lung faked sad surprise.
"That is troubling. If I had only known…" he said.
"What do you mean?" Mei asked.
"Sadly, the boy's sentence has already been carried out," Tai Lung answered.
"What sentence?" Mei asked.
Tai Lung looked at her.
"Death…by beheading," he said in a sinister tone.
Tears welled up in Mei's eyes as she gasped and fell to the floor.
"How could you?!" she shouted as she ran off crying.
Tigress gave Tai Lung a glare and followed. Meanwhile, Shen finally got himself free. He looked at Tai Lung.
"So, how did it go?" he asked.
Tai Lung smiled.
"She took it…rather well," he said.
Mei had made her way to the garden, where she sat on the side of the peacock fountain, weeping. Tigress came out and sat next her. She hugged Mei close.
"Mei, I'm sorry," she said.
Mei looked at her mother and buried her face into her shoulder.
"Mom, I didn't even know his name," she said, continuing to cry.
Tigress was heartbroken to see her daughter like this.
"There, there, Mei…" she said.
And for a long moment, Mei continued to cry. For the moment, she seemed inconsolable.

Chapter 5
In the cold darkness of the palace dungeon, Cheng was chained to the wall. For a long moment, he struggled, but then gave up.
"She was one of the princesses. I must have sounded so stupid to her!" he said, berating himself.
Suddenly, Cheng heard loud chattering sounds. He looked up to see Abu standing at the topmost window in the dungeon. The young Snow leopard smiled.
"Abu, down here! Come on and help me get free," he said.
Abu climbed down to where Cheng was, but instead of immediately helping, he began to chatter angrily, placing a cloth over his head and making his eyes big in an imitation of Mei.
Cheng smiled sheepishly.
"Hey, she was in trouble, and she was worth it," he said.
Abu jumped up on Cheng's broad, handsome shoulders, pulled out some tools from his vest and began to unlock Cheng's shackles. Finally, he was freed. Cheng rubbed his wrists as Abu chattered at him more. He looked down sadly.
"Don't worry, Abu. I'll never see her again. I'm a street rat, and there's a law. She has to marry a prince. She deserves a prince," he said.
Cheng then looked down sadly.
"I'm a fool," he said.
Suddenly, a new voice was heard.
"You're only a fool if you give up, boy," it said.
Cheng and Abu looked around until their eyes settled on an elderly male Snow leopard. Unknown to them, this was actually Tai Lung. He had, through unknown means, assumed this form. Cheng looked at him.
"Who are you?" he asked.
The disguised Tai Lung came closer.
"A lowly prisoner like you, but perhaps we can be more," he said.
Cheng looked at him.
"I'm listening," he said.
Tai Lung smiled.
"There is a cave, boy, a cave of wonders. It is filled with treasures beyond your wildest dreams. Treasure enough to impress even your princess, I'll wager," he said.
Cheng stared at him.
"But the law says that only a prince can…" he began.
Tai Lung made a motion with his paw, cutting him off.
"You've heard of the golden rule, haven't you? He who has the gold makes the rules," he said with a grin.
Cheng scoffed.
"Why would you share all of this wonderful treasure with someone like me?" he asked.
Tai Lung grinned again.
"I need a young man with strong legs and a strong back to go in after it," he said.
Cheng nodded.
"But there's a problem. It's out there and we're in here," he said.
Tai Lung simply went over and opened a secret exit in the wall.
"So do we have a deal?" he asked.
And so, Cheng agreed and they were off. Before long, they stood before the Cave of Wonders.
"Who disturbs my slumber?" the Cave asked.
"It is I, Cheng-Ti," Cheng said.
"Proceed. Touching nothing but the lamp," the Cave replied.
And so, Cheng began to enter the Cave.
"Remember, first bring me the lamp, and then you shall have your reward," Tai Lung told him.
Cheng nodded and entered into the cave. After descending the stairway, he and Abu came into a chamber full of untold treasures. "Wow. Just a handful of this stuff would make me richer than the sultan," Cheng said gleefully.
Without warning, Abu jumped off Cheng's shoulders and ran for some of the treasure. However, Cheng stopped him.
"Don't touch anything! We have to find that lamp," he said.
Suddenly, there was a flapping sound. Cheng and Abu turned to see what it was. However, they saw nothing. They heard it again and turned and finally saw it. They saw a beautiful carpet imitating their movements. Cheng smiled with delight as he realized what it truly was.
"A magic carpet," he said excitedly.
However, Abu did not feel the same. He chattered angrily at the carpet, causing it to walk away sadly. Cheng looked at it.
"Wait, don't go. Maybe you can help us. You see, we're trying to find this lamp," he said.
The carpet turned back in joy. He motioned for Cheng and Abu to follow him.
Cheng nodded.
"I think he knows where it is, come on, Abu," he said.
And so, the carpet led them through a long tunnel. Finally, they emerged to see a tall pillar with a stairway leading up to it. It was surrounded by water with unevenly placed stones that worked as a bridge. At the top was a beam of light that shone on the lamp. Before Cheng crossed the bridge, he looked at Abu.
"Don't touch anything!" he warned.
Cheng then went and crossed the bridge. Meanwhile, Abu noticed a golden statue of a monkey. In its outstretched hands was a massive ruby. Abu was drawn to it. However, the carpet took notice and grabbed Abu's tail to hold him back. Climbing the stairs with typical feline swiftness, Cheng came ever closer to the lamp. Finally, he reached it.
"This is it? This is what I came…" he began.
However, his words were cut off as he turned to see Abu break free of the carpet's grasp and headed right for the golden monkey statue.
"Abu, no!" he shouted.
It was too late. Abu grabbed the gem. In response, the cave began to rumble furiously.
"Infidels! You have touched the forbidden treasure! Now you will never again see the light of day!" it said.
Abu placed the gem back on its perch, but to no avail. Everything around them began to turn into lava and explode around them. The carpet grabbed them and flew off. After a harrowing ordeal, they were almost to the top, but then a boulder fell, catching the carpet and pinning it down. As it fell, Cheng grabbed on to the wall of rock and held on. At the top, the disguised Tai Lung looked down at him.
"Help me out!" Cheng pleaded.
"Throw me the lamp!" Tai Lung replied.
"I can't hold on. Give me your hand!" Cheng answered.
"First, give me the lamp!" Tai Lung said.
Risking his life, Cheng took the lamp and passed it to Tai Lung. Tai Lung raised it over his head in victory.
"Yes! At last!" he shouted.
By now, Cheng had climbed out with Abu's help, but Tai Lung kicked Abu away and grabbed Cheng's wrist. Cheng panicked.
"What are you doing?!" he asked.
Tai Lung pulled out a dagger.
"Giving you your reward…your eternal reward!" he said, allowing his voice to return to normal.
Cheng was shocked. However, before Tai Lung could stab the young leopard, Abu leaped up and bit Tai Lung on the wrist. As it happened, Tai Lung let go of Cheng, causing him fall back into the cave. Tai Lung threw Abu back in as well. As Cheng and Abu fell, the carpet got free and tried to catch them. However, Cheng had already hit some rocks and was unconscious. The carpet caught him, saving him from certain death. The Cave gave one last roar and collapsed back into the sand. Finally, Tai Lung ripped off his disguise and returned to normal.
"Yes, it's mine. It's all mine!" he said.
He then began to try and get it, but suddenly realized that it was missing.
"Where is it?! NO!" he shouted, his voice echoing across the landscape.
Meanwhile, in the palace, Mei was weeping in her bedroom. Po and Tigress entered.
"Mei, honey, your father and I are here to talk to you," Tigress said.
Mei turned as Po walked towards her. He and Tigress sat down on the bed with her. Po held her close.
"There, there, honey. Now, what's wrong? Your mother told me that something was up with you," he said.
Mei got just enough control to speak again.
"Tai Lung has done something terrible," she said.
Po was shocked.
"Please, tell your father everything," Tigress said.
Mei nodded and told her father everything, shocking him even more. Tigress looked at Po.
"Tomorrow, we will call him before us," she said.
Po nodded and hugged Mei again. Tigress did the same. Back in the cave, Cheng finally began to wake up. Rubbing his head, he then realized that the Cave had closed up.
"We're trapped. That two-faced son of a jackal! Whoever he was, he's long gone with that lamp," he said.
Suddenly, Abu pulled out the lamp. Cheng smiled.
"Why, you hairy little thief!" he said excitedly as he took the lamp.
Cheng looked at the lamp.
"There seems to be something written her, but it's hard to see," he said.
Cheng then proceeded to rub the lamp to clean it off. However, smoke began to pour out of the spout and the lamp began to shake and spark. Suddenly, a huge, gray-furred anthro wolf genie came out with a loud shout. He looked forward.
"Oy, 10,000 years will give you such a crick in the neck!" he said.
He then spotted Cheng, picked him up and hung him on a nearby rock. He then pulled off his head and spun it around as Cheng was pulled down.
"Whoa, does it feel good to be out of there!" he said.
He looked at Cheng.
"Hi there. What's your name?" the wolf genie asked.
Cheng smiled nervously.
"Uh, Cheng-Ti," he said.
The wolf genie nodded as he conjured a giant neon sign with Cheng's name on it.
"Hello, Cheng-Ti. Nice to have you on the show. This means that you are now my master," he said.
Cheng looked up at him.
"Wait, I'm your master?" he asked.
The wolf genie nodded.
"Yes. I am the ever impressive, the long contained, the often imitated but never duplicated genie of the lamp! However, you can call me Humphrey," he said.
"So what now, Humphrey?" Cheng asked.
"I am here for the fulfillment of your three wishes," Humphrey replied as he greeted the carpet.
"Wait, three wishes?" Cheng said.
"Yes. However, ix-nay on wishing for more wishing for more wishes. That's it. Three," Humphrey answered.
Cheng laughed.
"I must have hit my head harder than I thought," he said.
Suddenly, Humphrey began to rise up as he caused music to play.
"Master! I don't think that you quite realize what you've got here, so allow me to illuminate the possibilities," he said.
*Humphrey spins around and then begins to sing*
Humphrey:
Well, Ali Baba had them forty thieves
Scheherazade had a thousand tales
But master you in luck, cause up your sleeve
You got a brand of magic that never fails
You got some power in your corner now
Some heavy ammunition in your camp
You got some punch, pizzazz, yahoo and how
See all you gotta do is rub that lamp
And I'll say
*Humphrey appears inside the lamp, grabbing Cheng's paw and rubbing the lamp with it*
Mister Cheng-Ti, sir
What will your pleasure be?
Let me take your order, jot it down
You ain't never had a friend like me
No no no
*Humphrey zaps Cheng into a restaurant setting and appears as a waiter*
Life is your restaurant
And I'm your maitre'd
C'mon, whisper what it is you want
You ain't never had a friend like me
*Suddenly, Humphrey explodes into four duplicate versions of himself*
Yes sir, we pride ourselves on service
You're the boss, the king, the shah
Say what you wish, it's yours
True dish
How about a little more baklava?
*Cheng appears on a throne being fanned by Abu and the carpet. Humphrey fills the screen with baklava*
Humphrey:
Try some of column A
Try all of column B
I'm in the mood to help you, dude
You ain't never had a friend like me
*Humphrey opens his mouth and his tongue becomes a staircase. A smaller Humphrey dressed in showman's garb comes out and does a dance with Humphrey's giant paws. After that, he begins to perform all sorts of stunts*
Can your friends do this?
Do your friends do that?
Do your friends pull this out their little hat?
Can your friends go poof?
*Humphrey turns first into a rabbit, then a dragon. As a dragon, and on the last line, he breaths fire. Out of the fire comes Nala, Kiara and Vitani. The lionesses dance before Cheng. Just as he begins to enjoy them, they vanish*
Humphrey:
Well looky here
Can your friends go Abracadabra, let 'er rip
And then make the sucker disappear?
So don't you sit there slack jawed, buggy eyed
I'm here to answer all your midday prayers
You got me bona fide, certified
You got a genie for a charg? d'affairs
I got a powerful urge to help you out
So, what you wish, I really want to know
You got a wish that's three miles long, no doubt
So all you gotta do is rub like so and oh
*Humphrey gives Cheng a gentle push forward. Nala reappears and Cheng leans in to kiss her. She vanishes and Humphrey reappears. To the left, he conjures four dancing elephants. To the right, he conjures four dancing leopardesses*
Mister Cheng-Ti, sir, have a wish or two or three
I'm on the job, you big nabob
You ain't never had a friend, never had a friend
You ain't never had a friend, never had a friend
You ain't never had a friend like me
You ain't never had a friend like me
*As the music ends, Humphrey sucks everything back into the lamp. Cheng looks at him*
"So, what will it be, Master?" he asked.
Cheng smiled.
"You're going to grant me any three wishes I want?" he asked.
Humphrey magically transformed into Yoda.
"Mm, three wishes, you get. However, three limitations, there are," he said.
Cheng was stunned.
"Limitations? Like what?" he said.
Humphrey returned to normal and appeared at Cheng's side. He then proceeded to explain the three limitations: he could not kill anyone, make anyone fall in love or bring anyone back from the dead. Cheng seemed unimpressed.
"I don't know, Abu. An all-powerful genie can't bring someone back from the dead. It looks like we'll have to find our own way out," he said.
Cheng and Abu got up and began to walk away. However, Humphrey became enraged and placed his huge foot in front of them.
"Excuse me, did you rub my lamp? Did you wake me up? You brought me here and now you're walking out on me?! I don't think so! You're getting your wishes, so SIT DOWN!" he shouted.
Cheng and Abu sat down on the carpet. Humphrey took the form of a flight attendant and pointed out the exits before the carpet took off, going up through the ground and into the sky. Little did Cheng know that what would happen next would lead him to his destiny.

Chapter 6
It was the next day. In the throne room, Tai Lung stood before Po, Tigress, Mei, Huan and Wei. Po and Tigress looked at Tai Lung.
"Tai Lung, this is an outrage," Tigress said.
Po nodded in agreement.
"My wife is right. Tai Lung, from now on, you are to discussing sentencing of prisoners with us…before they are beheaded!" he said.
Tai Lung looked at them.
"I assure you, my lord and lady, it won't happen again," he said.
Po smiled and rose to stand between Mei and Tai Lung.
"Mei, Tai Lung, let's put this whole messy business behind us," he said.
Tai Lung went up to Mei.
"My most humble apologies to you as well, Princess," he said.
He took her paw to kiss it, but Mei yanked it away.
"At least some good will come from me being forced to marry. When I am queen, I will have the power to get rid of you!" she said angrily.
Tai Lung gave a small laugh as Po smiled.
"Great. It's all settled. Now, Mei, getting back to this suitor business…" he began.
However, he never finished his sentence, as he saw Mei storming out into the garden. He followed her, followed by Tigress, Huan and Wei. Tai Lung and Shen looked down at the family argument that ensued.
"If only I had gotten that lamp!" Tai Lung lamented.
"I will have the power to get rid of you!" Shen said, imitating Mei's voice perfectly.
He growled.
"To think that we have to keep kissing up to the chump sultan and his chump daughter for the rest of our lives," he added.
Tai Lung looked at him.
"No, Shen, only until she finds a chump husband. Then she'll have us banished…or beheaded," he said.
Both shared disgusted looks upon contemplating decapitation. Suddenly, Shen had an idea.
"Wait a minute, Tai Lung, what if you were the chump husband?" he asked.
"What?" Tai Lung asked as if he had been insulted.
Shen then proceeded to lay out the plan: Tai Lung would get Po to grant him permission to marry Mei, thus assuring that he would become sultan upon the panda's death. Tai Lung liked the idea. He and Shen laughed wickedly. Meanwhile, in the outside of the city, Cheng, Abu and Humphrey landed in an oasis. Humphrey, still dressed as a flight attendant, began to say goodbyes.
"Thank you for choosing magic carpet for all your travel needs. Please do not stand until the carpet has come to a complete stop. Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye," he said.
Finally, he turned back to normal.
"Well, what do you think now?" the wolf genie asked.
Cheng smiled.
"Oh, you certainly showed me. Now, about my three wishes…" he said.
Humphrey glared.
"Do my ears deceive me? Three? You are down by one, boy!" he said, pointing at his master.
Cheng pushed Humphrey's paw away.
"Ah no, I never actually wished to get out of that cave. You did that on your own," he said.
As Humphrey realized that Cheng was right, he became embarrassed.
"Very well, but no more freebies!" he said.
Cheng nodded.
"That's a fair deal. So, three wishes. I want them to be good. What would you wish for, Humphrey?" he asked.
Humphrey was shocked.
"Wow, no one's ever asked me that before. Well, in my case…nevermind," he said.
"What?" Cheng asked.
And so, Humphrey spoke of his greatest desire: to be free of the lamp, and that only a master's wish could set him free. It was then that a deal was struck: once Cheng had used his first two wishes, he would use his third to set Humphrey free. This appealed to the wolf genie, and he was excited. He was now ready to use his powers.
"All right, let's do it to it!" he said, momentarily transforming into Sonic the Hedgehog.
Humphrey turned back to normal and looked Cheng in the eyes.
"So, Master, what will it be?" he asked.
"Well, there's this girl…" Cheng began, thinking of Mei.
Humphrey held up a paw.
"Hold on, Master. I can't make people fall in love, remember?" he said.
"But Humphrey, she's smart and fun and…" Cheng began.
"Pretty?" Humphrey asked, finishing Cheng's sentence.
"Beautiful! She's got these eyes and this fur, wow, and her smile…" Cheng explained.
Humphrey smiled as Cheng then looked down sadly.
"But she's the princess. To even have a chance, I'd have to be…wait a minute, can you make me a prince?" he said.
Humphrey conjured a "royal cookbook" to find a "recipe" to turn the young Snow leopard into a prince. He found one after a moment of searching. He looked at Cheng.
"Is that an official wish? Just say the word!" he said.
Cheng smiled.
"Humphrey, I wish for you to make me a prince!" he exclaimed happily.
Humphrey howled cheerfully, then transformed into a tailor. Taking Cheng's measurements, he proceeded to turn Cheng's beggar rags into a handsome prince's outfit consisting of whitish shirt and pants with gold decorations and a cape of the same color with a purple inner lining. He also turned Cheng's fez into an elaborate whitish headwrap with gold decoration and a purple feather. Proud of his work, Humphrey decided to give Cheng an impressive mode of transportation. He called forth Abu and, after a few tries, turned him into an elephant. Cheng was happy. Humphrey looked at him.
"Hold on, your majesty, because we're not through yet! We're going to make you a star!"
Immediately after speaking, Humphrey raised his hands and began to conjure all sorts of royal items as fireworks exploded around them. Cheng had never been more excited in his life.

Chapter 7
In the palace, Po and Tigress had spent the day performing their royal duties. Now, there was a break, and Tigress looked out through the window. She smiled.
"Today is such a beautiful day. I think I'll go out on the balcony for a bit," she said.
Po smiled at her.
"Go ahead, Tigress. I'll be there shortly," he said.
Tigress planted a small kiss on Po's lips and then headed out onto the balcony. Song, Mei Ling, Viper, Crane, Monkey and Mantis decided to follow her. Just as they made their way out, Tai Lung entered with Shen. Tai Lung had a scroll in his paw.
"Sire, I have found a solution to the problem with your daughter," he began.
"Awk! The problem with your daughter!" Shen said.
Po looked at them.
"What is it, Tai Lung?" the panda asked.
Tai Lung unread the scroll and began reading it.
"If the princess does not choose a husband by the appointed time, then the sultan shall choose for her. In the event that a suitable prince cannot be found, the princess must then be wed to…hmm, interesting," he said with a devious expression.
"What? Who?" Po asked.
Tai Lung smiled.
"The grand vizier. Why that would be…me," he said.
Po looked at the scroll.
"But I'm sure that the law says that only a prince can marry a princess," he said.
"Desperate times call for desperate measures," Tai Lung replied.
He then held out his cobra staff and began to hypnotize Po with it.
"Yes, desperate measures…" Po said in a hypnotized voice.
"You will order Princess Mei to marry me," Tai Lung continued.
"I will order Princess Mei to…" he said.
However, this time, Po was able to break out of it. He looked at Tai Lung.
"But you're so old," he said.
Tai Lung glared furiously and applied the hypnosis again.
"You will order Princess Mei to marry me!" he shouted.
Again, the hypnosis was broken, this time by a trumpet fanfare. Moments later, Tigress poked her head into the palace.
"Po, get out here quick," she said with a smile.
Po ran out. To his surprise and delight, he saw a huge royal parade entering at the city.
"Tai Lung, you must come and see this!" he exclaimed.
*Parade music starts up. Humphrey is seen dressed as a parade major and is leading the parade. Some of the dancers begin to sing*
Marchers: Make way for Prince Ali!
Sword dancers: Say hey, it's Prince Ali!
*Humphrey dances through the town*
Humphrey:
Hey, clear the way in the old bazaar
Hey you, let us through, it's a bright new star
Now come, be the first on your block to meet his eye
Make way, here he comes
Ring bells, bang the drums
You're gonna love this guy
*Abu, in his elephant form, appears. On either side of an elaborate platform on his back are several attractive lionesses holding large ostrich-feather fans. As Humphrey gets to the end of his lyrics, the lionesses pull back the fans, revealing Cheng in his prince guise*
Prince Ali
Fabulous he
Ali Ababwa
Genuflect
Show some respect
Down on one knee
*As Abu continues to walk, Cheng waves to the crowd*
Now try your best to stay calm
Brush up your Sunday hé ping
And come and meet his spectacular coterie
*Up on the palace balcony, Shen dances to the music until Tai Lung angrily glares at him. Down on the ground, Humphrey holds a stack of men up to shake Cheng's hand*
Prince Ali
Mighty is he
Ali Ababwa
Strong as ten regular men, definitely
He faced the galloping hordes
A hundred bad guys with swords
Who sent those goons to their lords?
Why Prince Ali!
Chorus of male jackals (carrying the camel statues): He's got 75 golden camels
Humphrey (As Salty from Alpha & Omega): Don't they look lovely, Candy?
Chorus of vixens (on a float): Purple peacocks, he's got 53!
Humphrey (As Candy from Alpha & Omega): Fabulous, Salty, I love the feathers!
*A giant balloon gorilla appears*
Humphrey (Off-screen):
When it comes to exotic type mammals
Has he got a zoo, I'm telling you
It's a world class menagerie!
*We cut to a balcony, where Aleu, Kate and Lilly are watching. Suddenly, Humphrey, transformed into an anthro version of Jenna from Balto, appears behind them*
Humphrey (with Aleu, Kate and Lilly in counterpoint):
Prince Ali
Handsome is he
Ali Ababwa
(There's no question that this Ali's alluring)
That physique, how can I speak?
(Never ordinary, never boring)
Weak at the knee
(Everything about the man just plain impresses)
Well, get on out in that square
(He's a wonder, he's a whiz, a wonder)
Adjust your veil and prepare
(He's about to pull my heart asunder)
To gawk and grovel and stare at Prince Ali
(And I love the way he dresses)
*Mei and Huan have been watching from a different balcony. Mei walks off in disgust*
Chorus:
He's got 95 white Persian monkeys!
Rhino guards:
He's got the monkeys!
Let's see the monkeys!
*Cheng is shown tossing pawfuls of gold coins to the citizens*
Chorus:
And to view them, he charges no fee!
He's generous, so generous!
He's got slaves, he's got servants and flunkies
Proud to work for him
They bow to his whim, love serving him
They're just lousy with loyalty to Ali
Prince Ali
*Po and Tigress see the parade coming up the entrance stairs and rush to open the door, but Tai Lung and Shen stand in their way. Suddenly, the door bursts open, crushing Tai Lung and Shen behind it*
Humphrey, chorus:
Prince Ali
Amorous he
Ali Ababwa
*Humphrey comes up behind Po and Tigress*
Humphrey:
Heard your princess was a sight lovely to see
And that, good people, is why
He got dressed up and dropped by
Chorus:
With sixty elephants
Llamas galore
With his bears and lions
A brass band and more
With his forty fakirs
His cooks
His bakers
His birds that warble on key
Make way for Prince Ali
*Cheng flies off Abu's back on the carpet and zooms down in front of Po and Tigress. As he does so, Humphrey goes back into the lamp*
"Your majesties, I have journeyed from afar to seek your daughter's hand," he said.
Po and Tigress introduced themselves. What ensued was a talk from Tai Lung regarding Cheng's suitability. Cheng smiled cockily and looked at Po.
"Your majesty, I am Prince Ali Ababwa. Just let Princess Mei meet me. I will win your daughter," he said.
Unfortunately, as he spoke, Mei entered and heard the whole thing. She was furious.
"How dare you?! All of you! Standing here and decide my future?! I am not a prize to be won!" she shouted before storming.
Tigress smiled at Cheng.
"Don't worry, Prince Ali. Just give her some time to cool down," she said.
Po, Tigress and the others took Cheng to give him a tour of the palace. Tai Lung glared.
"I think that it's time to say goodbye to Prince Abooboo," he said.

Chapter 8
As the day passed, the arrival of "Prince Ali" was the talk of the entire palace. Song and Viper spoke of it.
"So, what do you think of him?" Viper asked.
Song looked over at Cheng, who was in the distance, talking with Po.
"Mm, Prince Ali, handsome is he…" she said, repeating part of the parade song.
Viper nodded in agreement. Meanwhile, Mei and Huan were talking in Mei's room.
"I think you should give him a chance," Huan told her.
Mei scoffed.
"You saw his entry. I'm sure he's just like all the others," she said.
Huan shook her head and began to leave.
"Just remember, dear sister, things aren't always what they seem," she said.
The day passed, and, that evening, Cheng was with Humphrey, Carpet and Abu in the palace garden. Cheng was frustrated over Mei's initial rejection, and was trying to figure out how to court her.
"How am I going to do this? I knew I couldn't pull off this stupid prince wish!" he exclaimed.
Meanwhile, Humphrey was busy playing a game of chess against the carpet, which he was losing. Cheng groaned.
"Humphrey, I need help," he said.
Humphrey vanished and reappeared next to Cheng.
"You want to win over the good princess? You've got to be a straight shooter. You got that?" he said.
"What?" Cheng replied.
Humphrey transformed into a teacher in front of a chalkboard.
"Tell her…THE TRUTH!" the wolf genie exclaimed.
Cheng growled.
"No! If Mei found out that I was really some pathetic street rat, she would reject me for sure!" he said.
Humphrey appeared in front of him.
"Cheng, all joking aside, you should really be yourself," he said.
Cheng frowned.
"Hey, that's the last thing that I want to be right now," he said.
The young Snow leopard then took up a cocky, prince-like pose.
"How do I look?" he asked.
"Like…a prince," Humphrey said sadly.
Cheng looked up at Mei's balcony.
"I'm going now," he said.
He then hopped on the carpet and flew up to the balcony.
"Princess Mei?" he called.
Mei looked up at the sound of the voice.
"Who is it?" she asked.
"It is I, Prince Ali Ababwa," Cheng replied.
Mei frowned.
"I do not want to see you!" she said.
Cheng persisted.
"Please, Princess Mei, give me a chance!" he pleaded.
Mei rose from her bed.
"Just leave me alone!" she shouted.
Under the balcony, Humphrey and the carpet were discussing the situation. Suddenly, Mei realized that Prince Ali reminded her of Cheng-Ti, the boy she had met in the marketplace.
"Wait, do I know you?" she asked.
Cheng was shocked.
"Uh…no," he said sheepishly.
"You remind me of someone I met in the marketplace," Mei continued.
Cheng looked embarrassed.
"The marketplace? No, no. It couldn't have been me you saw. I have servants who go to the marketplace for me. In fact, I have servants who go to the marketplace for my servants, so it couldn't have been me you saw," he said.
"No, I guess not," Mei said in a disappointed voice.
Suddenly, Humphrey appeared next to Cheng in the form of a bee.
"Enough about you, talk about her," he said.
"Uh, Princess Mei, you're very…" he said, trying to think of the right word.
Humphrey attempted to feed him some more words, causing Cheng to tell him to buzz off, which in turn caused Mei to think he was talking about her. However, Cheng fixed it in time. Humphrey went back into the lamp. Taking on a faux flirtatious look, Mei looked at "Prince Ali".
"I'm rich too, you know," she said.
"Yes," Cheng said.
"The daughter of a sultan," Mei continued.
"Yes," Cheng said happily.
Mei went on, leading Cheng to think that she had accepted him. However, she soon revealed the truth, angrily telling Cheng to go and jump over the balcony. Cheng looked away sadly.
"You're right. I'll go now," he said.
With that, Cheng stepped up onto the step and leapt off. Mei shouted out. Unknown to her, the carpet had caught Cheng. It lifted him up, much to Mei's shock.
"How are you doing that?" she asked.
Cheng smiled.
"It's a magic carpet," he said.
"It's lovely," Mei replied.
Cheng then got an idea.
"Would you like to go for a ride? We could get out of the palace, see the world," he said.
"Is it safe?" Mei asked.
"Of course. Do you trust me?" Cheng replied.
Mei's sapphire eyes went wide. She remembered the boy in the marketplace, who had said the same thing.
"Yes," she said, extending her paw.
Cheng took Mei's paw and pulled her onto the carpet. The carpet soared away.
*As the carpet flies, Cheng begins to sing*
CHENG:
I can show you the world
Shining, shimmering, splendid.
Tell me, striped majesty, now when did you last
Let your heart decide?
*The carpet soars majestically over the Valley*
I can open your eyes
Take you wonder by wonder
Over, sideways, and under
On a magic carpet ride
*The carpet does as Cheng sings, and then soars into the clouds*
A whole new world
A new fantastic point of view
No one to tell us no
Or where to go
Or say we're only dreaming
*Mei smiles at Cheng and begins to sing*
MEI:
A whole new world
A dazzling place I never knew
But when I'm way up here
It's crystal clear
That now I'm in a whole new world with you
CHENG: Now I'm in a whole new world with you
MEI:
Unbelievable sights
Indescribable feeling
Soaring, tumbling, freewheeling
Through an endless diamond sky
MEI: A whole new world
CHENG: Don't you dare close your eyes
MEI: A hundred thousand things to see
CHENG: Hold your breath, it gets better
MEI:
I'm like a shooting star
I've come so far
I can't go back to where I used to be
CHENG: A whole new world
MEI: Every turn a surprise
CHENG: With new horizons to pursue
MEI: Every moment, red letter
BOTH:
I'll chase them anywhere
There's time to spare
Let me share this whole new world with you
A whole new world
That's where we'll be
CHENG: A thrilling chase
MEI: A wondrous place
BOTH: For you and me
As the ride continued, Mei and Cheng looked for a place to spend some time together.
